Dreamy Yellow Cake Recipe

My favorite childhood cake was hands down yellow cake with chocolate frosting. (With German chocolate coming in a close second).

Now here's the thing: I grew up with box cakes and frosting in a can. Which was totally cool back then. Loved it.

Since then, I have spoiled myself with homemade cakes and frostings. I'm not a fan of frosting that is super sweet anymore (I'm looking at you American buttercream)! So canned frosting is out the door. Needless to say, my childhood favorite hasn't been in my life for quite some time now.

I've tested so many "best yellow cake" recipes and they have all dissapointed. They either taste like cornbread, or aren't fluffy at all. And don't even get me started on those super sweet, barely chocolatey frosting recipes I've tried.

That all changes today.

Browsing online, I discovered that King Arthur Flour company declared their 2019 recipe of the year freaking YELLOW CAKE with CHOCOLATE FROSTING.

The cake is perfectly moist and amazing. The only weird thing is that the edges of the cake don't pull away from the pan when you bake it, so you have to run a knife around the sides (be SURE to use a parchment paper circle and nonstick spray  thoroughly).

For the frosting recipe, I used two less ounces of powdered sugar than the original recipe. Also, instead of adding extra water at the end, I added milk a Tablespoon at a time and kept mixing until it was the consistency I wanted. I frosted the cake with a thin amount of frosting so it din't overpower the cake, but hey, you do you.

So. Freaking. Amazing. I'll never need a yellow cake recipe again.

Thank you so much for stopping by. Happy baking!
